Well, Thursday started off as another rainy day.
"Rain, rain, go away…come again another day!
All the surfers want to play…"
Suddenly, a clear spot fell over Newport.
time + salty air + metal = destruction
The fishing dories were closed and the parking lot was mostly empty.
The storm yielded snow on the 12,000' mountains just 80-miles inland.
Skiers and snowboarders were smiling.
Globs of kelp littered the windswept beach
To the south, rain blasted the hills from Laguna Beach to Dana Point
The pier was sadly empty,
with Catalina Island just visible in the distance.
A few locals came by, just to 'look,' then left to return to work, the gym,
and/or lack of surf ends soon…
Sandy completed her daily jog, from the upper streets to the pier,
without worrying about puddles.

With the quantities of street garbage and polluted run-off pouring down the Santa Ana River and into the bay, the water quality should be poor enough to keep most intelligent surfers away until next week—or encourage trips to SanO.
